Five Minutes More, Blue Sky 5’s latest offering, is packed with excitement. There’s plenty of three-horn harmony to provide a swinging big-band feel, featuring Gary Gregg on clarinet, Tommy Greco on tenor saxophone, and trumpeter Brett Lemley. Vocalist Chris Crerar and bandleader/vocalist/guitarist/pianist Craig Gildner are in fine form, keeping the mood light and jolly. Repertoire of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s sets the scene and songs like Sunday and I Can’t Give You Anything But Love are imbued with New Orleans flavor. Waiting for O’Brien, You’re a Sweetheart, and Gildner’s other original tunes salute the small groups led by Artie Shaw and Tommy Dorsey. All tracks were recorded live in one room to maintain the classic band feel. It’s a fabulous sixteen-track journey through a week of ups and downs in the love life of a young couple—and an essential collection for the seasoned lindy hopper or swing fan.
BLUE SKY 5 + 2/Five Minutes More: Long time DC swing crew still serve up a hat full of oldies, but this time out they bring the originals in as well as they have a real feel for the métier. Still going strong after the mass media circus has left town for swing dance, it’s just plain fun stuff. If you’ve got the urge to cut a rug, this is the magic carpet to hitch a ride on.- Chris Spector, Midwest Record Review
5 minutes More is a terrific album. We're lovin' it . .and so are our listeners.
